Musically I was inspired by bands like The Front Bottoms and Tigers Jaw, though more recently I’ve taken a lot of influence from The Wonder Years, Modern Baseball, and American Football.

My first guitar was a Washburn acoustic, and it was brought for me by my Mum. I was originally a drummer, but I’d started to learn guitar with some friends. My family never had much money at all, but she wanted to support me in something I was passionate about, and I’ll always be thankful for her for that. Musically I was inspired by bands like The Front Bottoms and Tigers Jaw, though more recently I’ve taken a lot of influence from The Wonder Years, Modern Baseball, and American Football.

It’s changed quite a lot in recent years. Originally it was just songs I wrote in my bedroom, recorded as they were in a studio. Over time I’ve taken to writing songs as I demo, constantly trying out melodies, chords, and lead parts, until I was completely happy with the demo. Then I just directly record all the individual parts over in the studio. I have to be in a good head space ideally. I try to relax as much as possible, I do a bunch of vocal warmers, make sure I’m hydrated, and that I’ve eaten. I’ve also recently started stretching more before I play and it has completely changed my energy levels after a set. Mostly I like to hang around and talk to fans though, without them, I am nothing, and I love and care about all of them so much.
